I visited Philly recently, and my hosts took me to Woodrows for the philly cheesesteak, and it was bonkos good! house-made "truffle whiz" cheese sauce was gooey and the steak and onions was more flavor than I was expecting. Perfect hangover food, but I'm sure would be great without the hangover (better even, maybe)

I know going to a steakhouse is cheesy--- and I don’t even eat steak but Old Homestead put that wooooork in when they formulated that garlic bread. I’ve never had anything like it. It’s like a parmesan fondue with bricks of garlic bread stacked up like Manga, it is one of the best appetizers I’ve ever had. The crab cakes are great too, a nice jumbo lump crab without all that filler and a beautiful aioli.

If I'm in Chicago the only place I'm tryna get Italian Beef is Johnnie's in Elmwood Park. If I'm outside of Chicago I know the great Chicago export of Portillo's will offer a perfectly adequate beef. I probably won't go out of my way for this Portillo's again, but the decor inside was classic Chicago mob-themed and you can't beat their iconic red stripes and wiener dog mascot. My main critique of the quality of the sandwich is sometimes their meat is a bit tough, and even though I ask for the beef "extra juicy" there are some really dry moments. Overall, solid intro to Italian Beef and their chopped salad is bomb! 7/10 Yum 9/10 Chicago-ness 10/10 Service 8/10 Vibes (slightly lower cuz their patio was lacking in vibe but inside was great)

I know slavoj zizek is a fucking loser now, but his movie A Pervert's Guide to Ideology was the first piece of media that began to rub away the sheen/shellac of pretense that the world operates smoothly. It was my first time really engaging with a Marxian analysis and sitting with it. I was in high school, and it set me up to care about critical theory. From this movie, I'd read Mark Fisher's really quick book "Capitalist Realism: is there no alternative?" Fisher grounds a lot of his theory in culture/media in a very similar way to Zizek. After that, I'd follow recommendations made by others in the thread!

1. Scroll the "everyone" feed (almost completely ignore that home/friends page) 2. Like gratuitously 3. Follow people who post things you like 4. I try to be brave and comment when feeling moved I don't search or look for anything in particular, personally, unless I'm about to post something and curious if others have done so already. Just let the river float by and enjoy the ride
