2 beautiful claymation point-and-click adventure games!!!! hits surreal right on the noggin. love love love the puzzles, animation & soundtracks in both of them, they're really wonderful. it's been like, well over a decade since i've played the neverhood so i dunno where you could find that but armikrog is on steam (and apparently 75% off right now according 2 google)!!!!

I’d spend hours playing this game as a kid and the influence of its strange atmosphere has stuck with me all my life. Immersed in an empty black void, this world of clay The Neverhood at times felt unnerving and downright creepy as much as it evoked a sense of absolute wonderment. As you traverse a barren and sparsely inhabited landscape full of winding platforms and unorthodox structures the whimsy of this world quickly grows on you. The game is a point and click puzzle adventure that forces you to think outside the box a little. It doesn’t layout a clear path or purpose for you but invites you to uncover hidden truths as you search for meaning along the way. The whole game is a work of art. An epic of creation moulded from 3 tonnes of clay and countless hours of man power crafting a 3D world by hand and bringing it to life through stop motion animation. A kind of dedication you frankly just don’t see much these days. The game was conceptualized and created by Doug TenNapel who was a designer for the 1994 classic Earthworm Jim with Shiny Entertainment. Dissatisfied with Shiny Entertainment’s operations at the time, TenNepel branched off to create his own company The Neverhood, Inc. and alongside Mark Lorenzen and many other artists who also worked on the creation of the Eathworm Jim began to realize his vision for The Neverhood.  The game itself wouldn’t be complete without the incredible and bizarre and comedic soundtrack that accompanies it.  Scored by Terry Scott Taylor Imaginarium: Songs from the Neverhood is a mind and genre melting collection of absurdity that will serve you up some “Potatoes, Tomatoes, Gravy, and Peas”, have you “Playing Pool in Outer Space” and “Sound Effects Record #32” in case you weren’t familiar with the sound of a freeway from twenty miles away or the sounds of a man watching television with the volume at zero. This is another gem of an album I’d highly recommend painting too if you feel like getting weird with it.  I cannot stress the level of impact this game has had on me creatively and would not only recommend it highly to anyone with an interest in video games but to those with an appreciation for the art of claymation and animation in general.

Immortality-more horror/mystery. you scrub through footage of a movie star and things get weird, fast. really unique storytelling, great acting. don't want to say anything else to avoid any spoilers! Return of the Obra Dinn-detective/puzzle. you move through time and memories on the once lost merchant ship Obra Dinn and uncover a wild and twisted story. super detailed, extremely addictive in my experience, really unique graphics. it's like an interactive comic book with the most satisfying reveals and discoveries. Honorable mentions: Strange Horticulture, Gris (all time fav platformer), Void Crew (more of a strategy game than a story game but fun to play with friends)

oxenfree will ALWAYS be famous. night in the woods was good but i was a little let down bc everyone made it sound like it was gonna be lifechanging. i LOVED firewatch. the stanley parable is iconicccc. if you're into FMVs, her story is pretty good even though it's super short, and i've heard good things about night trap, phantasmagoria, and the 7th guest. if you are open to text adventures, galatea is an iconic one, as is zork. textadventures.co.uk has a big library you can peruse, some are better than others but it's fun to look through.

romanticise ur blunders & ur missteps, bc that is just part of being a creature. if u saw a duckling fall flat on its face and scramble 2 its feet u wouldn't judge the freakin duckling, u would think it was the cutest thing ever. because it is. we r just organisms in big ungainly bodies, and that is part of our charm. tripping over ur own feet is maybe the most adorable thing u can do. like awwhh u tripped on the pavement </333 this extends 2 social interactions 2. messaging exes that u miss them, making a joke that doesn't land, mishearing/not knowing/forgetting something, etc??!!?! SO SWEET. genuinely such wonderful & important & adorable things 2 do. i think this is maybe the best thing i've ever managed 2 train my brain 2 do. it isn't foolproof but it makes life a lot gentler.

just about everything that happens to you will be interesting to your future self/your descendants/archaeologists. immortalise your to do lists, shopping lists, packing lists, things that loved ones say, things that strangers say, the phrases you hear that would make a good band name. brainstorm what to do on the weekend, list your cravings, the songs stuck in your head, transcribe birdsong, etc. i track my periods & my finances in my journal. sometimes if i really want to take a photo of something i'll restrain myself and draw it in my journal instead. sometimes i take notes for uni in there, or draft sewing patterns, or sketch when im bored. journals are self-portraits!!!!!!!
