i still have a few episodes left of this, and while i liked some much more than others, i would recommend this series overall (it's just one season) for its mood, complexity, and uniqueness, and also style. it is very dark in terms of content but i think it handles more difficult storylines with sensitivity. check it out if you like strange supernatural & psychological mysteries!!

I think it’s good in its own right and was unfairly judged against Season 1 but it’s just different. Twisting neo-noir story of corruption and power with a stellar cast (as you can see in the below related recs I’ve BEEN saying this—it was one of the very first things I posted!!!)

The two that come to mind first are Cruel Summer and The Sinner. They are SO interesting you should 100% give them a try. If you like suspense I think you'd like these. Cruel Summer is 2 seasons long, each season being a standalone. The Sinner is 4 seasons long, each season is a standalone but I would recommend watching it in order because they mention things from previous seasons. Here is a SUPER quick description/summary for each show: Cruel Summer Season 1: Super sweet popular girl goes missing. Socially awkward girl low-key steals her identity. Popular girl reappears and accuses awkward girl of being a witness to her kidnapping. Everyone hates awkward girl. Secrets unfold and lies are exposed. You have to watch to the VERY end. Cruel Summer Season 2: Friend trio. Sweet coder girl, foreign exchange student party girl, and nice guy. Coder girl's family takes in party girl for a year (because she's a foreign exchange student). Coder girl and party girl become bffs but then they both develop a crush on nice guy (who has been coder girl's best friend since childhood). A tape gets leaked and nice guy is killed. Secrets unfold and more lies are told. You have to watch to the VERY end. The Sinner Season 1: A mother is at the beach with her husband and son. She sees a random couple kissing and listening to music and out of nowhere, repeatedly stabs the guy. Detective figures out what her connection to him is and why she killed him. CRAZY season my favorite out of all of them. The Sinner Season 2: 11 year old boy poisons and kills his parents back in the detective's hometown. Detective figures out why they were killed, if they were his parents, and if anyone he knows is somehow involved. Also an INSANE season. The Sinner Season 3: Car crash. One man survives, another dies. Something seems fishy. Detective digs into the survivor's past and discovers many worrisome, disturbing things. Psychological torture. Still a good season, but not as good as the other two. The Sinner Season 4: Detective is on a walk and hears a girl crying. He finds her, but only as she jumps off a cliff. People are suspicious of the detective, he is suspicious of them. Are things what they seem? Meh season. The show goes from SUPER GOOD to REALLY GOOD to kinda good to okay. I still watched all seasons though. Do with this what you will!
