i was in such a creative rut before i started a short film workshop with my friends and whoever it reached by word of mouth. such a sweet little crew we got together, making movies every week, giving feedback, tryna be better... helps to formalize things sometimes even if it's people you know, just giving yourself permission to be serious and playful

I blinked and made a short film? My friend recently started an artist collective, and one of the flagship activities involves hosting parties with queer and femme DJs and/or musical talent. I take the theme and then create something to go alongside the party. This party was called Spring Fling and is about rebirths and awakenings. I reached out to friends to help me create a non-linear short film that tells the "Awakening" stories of 4 women. Pseudo-interview style, and improvised/"real" stories. We posted initial cut, and I couldn't be more thankful for the opportunity to make art with and for my friends!

I really love film and wanna break into that world one day, but for now I'm just starting with making scrappy stuff with friends. The whole thing sounded so intimidating, like what do you mean I have to give people a script and put a camera in front of their face and ask them to pretend to be someone else??? That takes a lot of vulnerability I think.
Turns out it's so much fun and I need to start doing it more. This first silly video is in fact for a competition my university library is holding to make a promotional short for the libraries. Lowkey don't think we achieved the goal but I hope some student worker gets a laugh.
