Contrary to how it sounds, this rec doesn't come from a place of pretentiousness or pride. Much to the contrary, I become absolutely giddy when I come across a song whose title escapes me but is on the tip of my tongue. I go into full sonic sleuth mode -- using any combination of lyrics, whosampled.com, similar artists etc until I finally find the song title via my own prowess. Shazam isn't cheating, but it's also nowhere near as fun.

It’s like capturing a Pokémon. There is not much control or insularity in this world but when that song ends and the next one plays, there is nothing like the rush of stealing a new piece of sound to keep as your own 🫶

I will Shazam even the most obvious of songs. One time I Shazamed “Someday” by the Strokes in front of an ”Indie music boy” and his reaction was like I had just run over his cat. I just love shazamming!!!

For Mexicans, the spirits of our dearly departed come back starting the 30th of October and ending the morning of the November 3rd, so we receive them with an altar filled with things they loved. Food, drinks, things related to activities, you name it. Of course marygolds, candles, papel picado, pan de muerto, and candy skulls are a must. This is my dad’s:
