I think this album affected the collective teenage girl population in the 2010s with startling ferocity– like brain-chemistry-changing levels of impact. ā€œand I’ve never felt more alone/it feels so scary getting oldā€ and the entirety of Ribs as a song still gets me in the feels to this day. Oh, and don’t even get me started with Melodrama!!

verygoodvalentina very much so. the ownership she took of the writing and production, i was so inspired by the surety she had in her message and the way she communicated. so cohesive and the perspective so singular that it was universal - the teenage hubris, the special and defining moments hidden in the mundane, romanticizing your relationship to yourself and your friends, your routes, rituals, the place you're at while you’re finally feeling like everything is mastered, laughing always - it’s truly a feat ribs is the best - it reminds me of being with my best friends and feeling like the only people on earth šŸ«‚ i love a world alone - ā€˜all the double edged people and schemes they make a mess they go home and get clean’ - and bravado - ā€˜i learned not to want the quiet of the room with no one around to find me outā€˜ - so good and yes… oh the tears that have been shed

bree beautifully worded!! completely agree to everything you just mentioned– there’s something truly wonderful about being able to transform personal experiences into universal messages through lyricism & ms. lorde did just that with that album

i remember first listening to pure heroine by lorde at 12, and the whole album has grown with me as i've entered adulthood. it was the first album i remember listening to all the way through. it was the first cd i ever bought for myself, and it started my love for collecting. i genuinely don't think there is or will ever be another album as influential to my being as this one has been. my favourite track has been a world alone since i was 14. it's been in my spotify wrapped for like 5 years now. i hope that i can love it forever.

(the best one - edward taking bella to the middle of the woods to dump her (?) leading to the scene where she spends a fiscal year swiveling in a chair in her bedroom, her messy thrill seeking, the miscommunication that had her sprinting to italy to stop edward from ending it all and the volturi standoff afterwards ouuu it’s just too too good i love it)
okayyyy fine fine i’ll share my full ranking:
