My flatmate lent me this beautiful, moving memoir by Michelle Zauner (the lead singer of Japanese Breakfast), which is all about her losing her mum to cancer in her 20s. Her prose is gentle, precise and insightful, as she tries to make sense of her mum, and her half-Korean identity now that her link to it has left this world, through their shared relationship with, and love of, Korean food. Highly recommend - I don't even listen to Japanese Breakfast; she's just a brilliant, soulful writer in her own right ๐Ÿณ

A memoir documenting the grief the author faces coping with her motherโ€™s cancer diagnosis and death. A beautiful and heartfelt story about family and identity as Zauner places her complex relationship with her mother under a microscope. They find understanding and comfort in food and through the author trying to connect with her Korean heritage more. Another name you might recognize more than Michelle Zauner is Japanese Breakfast. If you have ever listened to this band and thought highly of the lyricism, just know Zauner breathes all the same artistic talent and thought into her novel. I canโ€™t recommend Crying in H Mart enough, it is truly an amazing memoir.

Not a big reader but a massive Japanese Breakfast fan. Really emotional but beautiful memoir about her relationship with her mum, intertwined with descriptions about yummy Korean food.

Digitised DVD commentaries from films when they first came out. David Fincher on Gone Girl. Richard Linklater on School of Rock. The list is endless, and so much fun if this is your thing!

Not the tube, not the train, the DLR is an "automated light metro system", according to the internet. Without doubt, the best form of transport in London. I extend my trip to and from work by like 20 mins just so I can ride it. It's kind of like going on a rollercoaster that never actually goes fast. I have seen children have transcendent experiences riding it. I have had transcendent experiences riding it. The train is DRIVERLESS?! The best bit is going through Canary Wharf when the sun is setting - the way the light hits all that glass and steel...I am absolutely CONVINCED Caroline Polachek got most of her inspo for her most recent album by riding the DLR.

The way she marries All American girl-ness with this intrinsic depth/soulfulness. She's always had it - it's why BRING IT ON goes so hard. Her Architectural Digest also shows she's just a nerdy little weirdo. KD is the best.
