my Oura ring says i’m within the 10% of humans who are naturally more alert at night and that i scientifically require sleeping later than other people. a huge part of integrating this not-at-all surprising diagnosis into my life involves accepting that yes, the early bird gets the worm… however the night owl gets all the bitches. one one day i’ll be so confident about this fact that my bosses will agree to let me sleep until 2pm everyday for maximum efficacy.

i’ve always been a night owl for as long as i can remember and, even more so, decidedly NOT a morning person. recently though, i have started going to bed early (8:30-9:30PM) and it has made so much of a difference: i feel much more rested when i wake up and don‘t struggle to wake up at a decent time. i actually tend to naturally wake up at 6:30-7AM now—even on the weekend—when that would have been UNHEARD OF for most of my life.

i’m not a morning person and i have chronic sleep issues (i think delayed sleep cycle) so those are certainly a factor lol

I have good sleep hygiene. I sleep 8 hours a night. It's not really anyone's business what they are. I shape my life around my preferred sleeping hours and repetitive exclamations of how I'm up so late and get up so late are a harbinger of social dullness. 8 hours a night, 16 hours of wakefulness. Some people are just different. That's kindergarten stuff.
