Someone with more time on their hands and more well read than me can probably write a whole substack post talking about apps that track your usage of other apps or what media you consume and how they reveal a more authentic version of ourselves except not really cuz we become self aware of our usage of these "meta-apps" to the point where we moderate our usage of the original apps to present a particular version of ourselves that too is inauthentic. I don't have the time nor the background in that field to write about that so all I'll say is stats.fm is fun and I like seeing my monthly recap and checking what my friends are listening to! Everyone should download it!

Okay, so there’s this app (and website) called "stats.fm" that shows you your Spotify or Apple Music stats, and honestly, I think it’s super cool. Like, yeah, you get to see all your listening data—which artists you play the most, how many hours you’ve listened, that kind of thing—but what I really love is this other feature. It’s kinda like Tinder or those swipe-y apps, but instead of matching for dating, you match with people who listen to the same artists as you. And I don’t know, something about that just feels really wholesome and fun. Like, bonding over music is such a good way to make new friends, and this app makes that feel super easy. Here's my stats.fm profile: <3's stats, streams and more | stats.fm And my Spotify: Spotify – love you <3

normalize being nosy and seeing what songs your friends are listening to at any given moment with a widget. some of my friends just refuse to download this app but i respect it. i think it's a cute and fun way to feel more connected with friends by sharing each other's music.

Bonus points if you do it while listening to really hype music at the same time. Nothing gets you in the mood to code a breadth first search tree like drinking wine straight from the bottle while listening to Ken Carson
