aka “TikTok voice,” includes "uptalk" (a rising intonation on declarative sentences) and "vocal fry" (a soft creak as you speak) — this is also how I seem to read so many text-only posts, like those written here, Threads, X, etc.

This totally is happening . I’ve been thinking about TikTok/influencer voices and how it affects the rest of the world too . Recently my cousins from the Philippines came to visit and I noticed that their accents changed since I last saw them 4 years ago, they sound more like the young Filipino celebrities I see on instagram . The consonants are less harsh and it’s more airy and feminine . It’s like if Tagalog were spoken in an American accent, but a very specific one that I only recognized recently . Now I know it’s TikTok voice o.o

This is prime TikTok britcore and I adore it. For its own artistic merit of course but also because a guy I am dating (also called Adam, why are there only two names for men?!) recently got me into Adam Curtis and now I enjoy spotting his influence in the wild. Side note I love how AC's heavy use of transitional footage (car rides, people walking between buildings) gives his films this kind of liminal, zoomer vibe that's very before its time. Like Adam Curtis walked so some guy reading "What's the most unexplainable thing that ever happened to you?" Reddit posts over Minecraft parkour footage could run.

I’ve been super excited for my upcoming vacation to the beach. It’s too early to actually pack, so I’ve been sublimating by watching asmr packing videos. I’d say 99% of them are exactly the same: fast edits, no talking, no faces, overpacking, same packing cubes, same suitcase, neutral colors. I had no idea there were so many influencers. And doing what??? “Link to Amazon in my bio.” A glaring example that capitalism does not breed innovation.
