Electric technology changed everything about the human experience, McLuhan says. I'd never thought about it like that before. This movie, & the book of the same title, are wonderful & engaging. In our hypersaturated media environment, it bears repeating that mass media is a *very* new phenomenon. We, as a species, are just beginning to feel the genuine impacts of electric technologies. So even when McLuhan's personality gets pretentious, he still gave me a lot to think about.

It broke my brain in a good way. His foresight is also accurate to the point of eerie.

As soon as I read it this became my favorite non fiction book. It was written in the 80s but I feel like it’s still relevant and gave me a new perspective about technology and our media consumption.

this book literally changed my life and completely upended way i think about consciousness. octopus intelligence is the closest thing we have (and probably ever will have) to studying alien minds and this man makes the absolute most of it. bare fascinating especially if you already like biology shit, and if you don't, trust me this will change that.

I’m a musician who is totally burned out on self-promotion culture & so far, this website has felt like a reprieve from that. I would like for this to remain a place for sincere appreciation, not promotion

Someone else rec'd Jon Brion's music. That reminded me of this unaired pilot to his potential music TV show, starring Elliott Smith. Beautiful, stripped down versions of songs from Figure 8, XO, & some great covers.
