The 5 are one of the most important groups to ever perform and record, right up there for me with the Stooges, the Velvets and the Clash. I got to know him a bit and his non profit work with the incarcerated via his Jail Guitar Doors initiative marked him out as ‘special.’ He was lovable, generous, wryly funny, immensely talented and gone too soon.
