so many that it splits open again and again. and when everything falls out you get to look through everything 1 by 1 as u pick each scrap up and place it lovingly back in its delicate home, and tenderly tape the door closed

iโve been carrying this old notebook around and filling it up with ticket stubs, random pieces of paper, those stickers that come on fruit etc instead of writing anything down i just glue whatever in it

- I keep misc. 2d ephemera in large paper boxes. early on it was shoeboxes so thatโs childhood-college (plus the โe-files my dad has kept of my earliest paper days) and now i have a bigger photo box and will soon graduate to another. this is post-it notes left by my husband, movie ticket stubs, programs from exhibitions or shows, wristbands, business cards; receipts, etc. all loosely organized but sort of layered like the starts of a landfill or rock formation to be sifted layer by layer during times of reminiscence.
- photos in the envelopes i get them at the print shop labeled with the time. these are in a large fabric box. photo strips are in a small plastic box but regrettably unlabeled (if you like photo strips, condition yourself early on to date them because you will thank yourself later on)
- birthday/christmas/etc cards in a pokemon happy meal box, will need to get another
- written recipes (from myself or others) in my recipe tin
- i keep important legal documents and passport in a fireproof envelope my mom got me for christmas a few years ago. she had a nightmare about fire and got everyone fireproof envelopes.
- boring tax shit in a plastic box in case i need it
- my marriage certificate in a silver plated scroll
-lately iโve been keeping a scrap journal of notes, recipes, sketches, schematics, clippings, etc. really no rules no boundaries shut any time i need a piece of paper i add to it or glue small things iโve accumulated in it and i think ik do this going forward. i also add any stickers i acquire to it.

romanticise ur blunders & ur missteps, bc that is just part of being a creature. if u saw a duckling fall flat on its face and scramble 2 its feet u wouldn't judge the freakin duckling, u would think it was the cutest thing ever. because it is. we r just organisms in big ungainly bodies, and that is part of our charm. tripping over ur own feet is maybe the most adorable thing u can do. like awwhh u tripped on the pavement </333
this extends 2 social interactions 2. messaging exes that u miss them, making a joke that doesn't land, mishearing/not knowing/forgetting something, etc??!!?! SO SWEET. genuinely such wonderful & important & adorable things 2 do.
i think this is maybe the best thing i've ever managed 2 train my brain 2 do. it isn't foolproof but it makes life a lot gentler.

just about everything that happens to you will be interesting to your future self/your descendants/archaeologists. immortalise your to do lists, shopping lists, packing lists, things that loved ones say, things that strangers say, the phrases you hear that would make a good band name. brainstorm what to do on the weekend, list your cravings, the songs stuck in your head, transcribe birdsong, etc. i track my periods & my finances in my journal. sometimes if i really want to take a photo of something i'll restrain myself and draw it in my journal instead. sometimes i take notes for uni in there, or draft sewing patterns, or sketch when im bored. journals are self-portraits!!!!!!!
