This has been one of my comfort documentaries for years. It follows an Appalachian family (specifically in Kentucky) who have been living in the same hollow for seven generations. So sweet and sad and real. The whole thing is on YouTube, so you can watch for free. Link above!

sometimes I forget that the internet archive just has a database of public domain films. watched this one about an isolated community in the Adirondacks consisting entirely of the descendants of two families. they were so geographically and culturally isolated that they sent social workers to try and reintegrate them with society. wild to imagine how some pockets of history stay totally stagnant outside of modern influence. this was 50 years ago and you can still hear the ancestral Irish/scottish in their accents. fascinating watch!

I’m from NC and have been getting into all this app-history- this doc follows Darlene starting as a young mom in the 70s through her entire life into the early aughts. It’s eye-opening, informative, and a touch wild. You can find it on youtube or TikTok.

Such a small deed on your part, but for them, a magical experience.

This sounds weird until you do it. The taste is nbd after a few cloves AND it's good for you! It boosts immunity, digestion, balances blood sugar, fights infections, etc. Maybe just don't combine with coffee (made that mistake) and buy a pack of gum.
