lately, life has been beating the life out of me!! usually, when this happens, I sulk and feel helpless for many hours. but recently I‘ve started viewing my life like it’s a sitcom. now, all of my weekly misfortunes—receiving (another) job rejection, finding a mouse in my kitchen, spilling coffee all over my favourite white sweater—become silly & endearing plot points that I can easily brush off & forget about the next day (episode). try it! take care! <3

when i start feeling hopeless about my future career prospects and/or my relationships with other people i simply try to push it out of my brain and distract myself (usually with my phone, but i’m trying to use better methods, the best usually involve moving my body some way and/or completing a difficult task) sometimes this works sometimes this doesn’t. be wary of letting yourself go too much in the opposite way and falling into the unrealistic perfect fantasy daydream hole.

something about this video gets me thru the times when i don’t know what to do with myself: https://youtu.be/kXAv8RXmsrc?si=sEzFGI9QbGNpDZq_ jim carrey’s advice: 1. eat everything you see 2. if you start to spiral downward, turn the television on 3. change the pattern 4. have someone you know come up and smack you in the head 5. punch yourself in the leg 6. smoke. smoke as much as you possibly can. i interpret these as: 1. just eat. nourish your body. 2. get out of your own head (tv is great, i use video games for this) 3. change. the. pattern. 4. and 5. stim!! and/or release your emotions! (don’t actually cause harm to yourself or others) 6. allow yourself to use whatever coping tools you have (if you already smoke, smoke. if you don’t, don’t start.) idk how else to explain it, but for me, it works. hope this helps 🩷

i finally decided to quit smoking for good this year. however…the one thing holding me back was the wonderful, communal feeling of sharing a cig with strangers outside a bar. luckily, you can always be the person with the lighter on hand when people need one. you still experience that nice, warm bonding feeling without actually smoking. plus you’re being of service to others, which deepens the connection <3
