I think we're supposed to dislike or be afraid of the IRS — and that's generally my default position
...except every single time I call the IRS and talk to a real person, which I sometimes have to do, I end up talking to the nicest, most helpful people you can imagine. Every time without fail. 100%.
And yet I still kinda dread it. But that phone call is always a positive step.
Now it has me thinking about my priors and negative expectations in other spaces: probably most things aren't nearly as bad as our imaginations make them out to be.
