I often bring my pocket moleskin with me on nights out. Writing/wired headphones on the train ride home is healing; a stream of consciousness under the influence is truly uninhibited.
For a year while i traveled i wrote minimum 3 pages but at night before sleeping. It helped me rest and curb phone addiction. It takes me time to write and id do it until i couldnt keep my eyes open. My words would get jumbled and sincere by then. Im usually rushing in the morning or time blind, transitioning from my sleep body is hard, but journaling after waking is potent too. I tend to start out writing what i think i should write, then just dumping stream of consciousness style, and then usually am called to write down affirmation-y things between. I also will write over pages in my sketchbook as my art comes to me as words sometimes first :^)
I love journaling. Writing, drawing, listing, word vomiting, listening to music/lyrics, etc. It is how I keep myself safe, sane, and smart about my emotions. I am always getting better at it.
Somehow Soldout remains under appreciated, even in the midst of this "indie sleaze revival," or whatever they're calling it. 94 and For Your Next Girlfriend are a couple of my favs
