I've listened to so much Irish folk music since Shane MacGowan's passing and it really is a salve like no other. Always rousing and joyful while recounting life's endless hardships. Defiant. Beautiful.

Shane MacGowan died today. He led one of Ireland's greatest bands. This July, my dad sang "A Rainy Night in Soho" as my cousin walked down the isle. There wasn't a dry eye.
I've been loving you a long time Down all the years, down all the days And I've cried for all your troubles Smiled at your funny little ways
We watched our friends grow up together And we saw them as they fell Some of them fell into Heaven Some of them fell into Hell
Now this song is nearly over We may never find out what it means Still there's a light I hold before me And you're the measure of my dreams, the measure of my dreams

"These are dangerous days To say what you feel is to lay your own grave"
I'll go down swinging that this is a top ten all-time song. March 20th, NYC's Carnegie Hall, tribute concert for her and Shane McGowan.

lost a friend a while back that i used to sing this with in school. the song helps me put together a lot of complicated feelings about it all. i think the boygenius cover is brilliant, a tribute to sinΓ©ad o'connor and the royalties go to a charity that supports irish youth.

Listened to this song the second it dropped and haven't stopped listening to it. There's a line so sacrilegious I laughed out loud the first time I heard it. Impassioned and fierce and fearless on a level few bands can manage. Easily my most anticipated album of the year.

I don't know what's in the water over there that makes Australians so good at rock n roll but we should all be very grateful that they share their gift with us.

A fantastic book on prison abolition. So many parts of this book are shocking and difficult to grapple with but it still manages to be hopeful and encouraging.
