I’m talking - environmental themes // da man Tom Bombadil // Ralph Bakshi // vintage paperback covers that look like a prog album sleeve // Ents ?!! I find this inexplicably charming + also really have come to enjoy the extent to which Peter Jackson adapted this “vibe” more than he adapted the books with 100% fidelity

i‘ve had a late 20’s lotr awakening. watched all of the movies last year for the first time and DAMN do they hold up. special effects still dazzle, good balance of humor, viggo mortensen looking the sexiest a human has ever looked on screen. read the first book slowly over several months while reading other books alongside it. the songs can be a bit much but it mostly slapped. i was surprised by how much it moved me. finally finished and sprang for the uncut version the next day. simply an excellent use of time!!!!! will never forgive them for omitting tom bombadil and goldberry tho.

Everything about the movie and books. The vibe, the music, the scene, the time, the colors, i love it all.

the book is a comforting winding surfy 420 haze and I think the movie is decent too (staying on this thread because this is also my fave genre of book and I need more)

probably my favourite film series of all time and rewatching for the first time since “before midnight” came out in 2013 let those themes of the transience of lived experience + the weight of time’s passage deepen and resonate more truly for you baby!! Reflect on the person you were then and the person you are now! All that good stuff …

Tell me what food item you named your cat after (dogs also allowed but it’s a different kind of thing)

I’m not talking about the dish itself, as wonderful as it is but instead the absolutely optimal level of effort required to prepare it that makes you look like a proper home cook + impress your loved ones without making a mess of it - plus - the consistent stirring puts me in a nice meditative trance, very pleasant for someone not generally taken to the idea of cooking being a relaxing activity
