Maybe it's good that one social media site can be a completely depraved non-stop ad experience so that you can keep your shameless professional self-promotion confined to that platform. I haven't used it much so haven't thought about this until now.

at least instagram isn't pretending to be something it's not. everyone knows the deal with instagram. linkedin though? they claim to be the home of real relationships, career authenticity, and human-first professionalism. and that's exactly what rubs me the wrong way. it's all a lie. it's basically just a digital, polished-up version of a stereotypical corporate ladder. the kind where you're expected to suck up to execs and signal your "value" in hopes of getting something back. all dressed up in silicon valley tech bro speak. and don't get me started the concept of "connections". in real life, a connection is someone you know, or at least know through someone else. someone who’s remotely willing to help. on linkedIn? it's all performance. a whole lot of pretense, maybe even belief, that these cold contacts are actual, actionable relationships. i'm sure that’s what linkedin's founders wanted. but that's not what it is anymore. and i'm not saying that people aren't using the platform with good intentions. i just don't feel any integrity or sincerity when i'm on it. p.s. and that's why i appreciate pi.fyi!

LinkedIn hangs in this weird Internet purgatory of not-quite-a-social-app and not-quite-just-a-work one. Whenever posts/content swing too far in one direction that just feel out of place. The only way to combat this is to speak like yourself. How would you tell your friend about the cool thing you did at work or whatever. That platform needs more humanity and less "my three year old loves business and just ran the Q1 numbers..."

At the risk of sounding like a crusty old codger, it's a bad development that lots of people nowadays talk at full volume and can't get off their phones in the theater. However laughing, crying, and shrieking–these are actually good.
