and having him explain the full plot of interstellar because you havent seen it in 8 years before moving on to topics such as the vastness of space, life, weather, war, how the earth is tilting on it’s axis and may flip someday soon, and car insurance. it’s the best πŸ˜ƒ

called my dad for a verification code to get into his amazon prime video account and ended up having a long discussion about world war two, the bleakness of our culture's shortening attention span, and barry lyndon (1975)

i dont know how i managed to field interstellar for more than a decade but today i decided i was finally going to see it. i didnt feel like holding my phone up for 3 hours and it was too hot in the living room (heat index today 41C wtf) so i went to the next best screen: the tv in my parents room. my dad was already in bed, cooling off after lunch. i climbed in beside him and put the film on, ignoring his half hearted protest that he wanted to nap lol i wanted to watch interstellar, he just happened to be there and then an old murph said she knew cooper would come back "because my dad promised me" and i realised i was holding my dads hand, time folding in on itself and i thought oh, maybe this is why i never saw this film before. maybe it was orbiting me all these years, waiting for this version of me, this version of my dad, this version of life where i could sit beside him, feeling the weight of a hot, humid manila summer, and the quiet gratitude of a moment finally arriving

chopping up a ton of stuff while drinking red wine and listening to your upsetting podcast of choice and making a big pasta that you live on for days after. also letting yourself take the time to chill out and cook something when everything else feels super overwhelming ... just a small clemency

something cool about Pittsburgh is that pierogis are a staple food. my deli keeps them in the reach in at eye level and so I always end up buying a pack of them frozen. today i was tired and didn't want to cook but also the idea of Uber Eats-ing something was really depressing so i softened some scallions and green garlic in my wok and then let the pierogis brown on either side for like 6 minutes in the hot oil. then i made a dipping sauce with a scoop of creme fraiche and kewpie and a ton of chopped up herbs. when the rogis were done i sauteed several handfuls of spinach in the wok. don't feel bad about calories or carbs because you are also eating spinach ok. make a lazy pierogi dinner today
