Been on huge memoir kick as I’m currently writing book in the first person. Going to list two here and save this list to come back to. Always Crashing The Same Car by Matthew Specktor is great book about the guy himself whom I knew nothing about and artistic desperation and ambition focused in Los Angeles. It runs through many stories of The well known and not well known. He would actually be a great person on this app. The other is the opposite in tone. Just Kids by Patti Smith. A delightful more hopeful and romantic read about similar subject that just makes you feel great to be an artist and like you’re doing everything right. New York and rock n roll heavy. A lot on the Chelsea hotel.

maybe I should have said I didn’t like him as a narrator, too much about his hollywood life/problems that came off as affected - I would have preferred less about him and more about the subjects.

Oh Wow great rec! Looking to buy it now. Loved the Zevon chapter. Why don’t you like Specktor as a person?

bought always crashing for the warren zevon chapter, love stories about LA but I think I don’t like Spektor as a person. my la isn’t sons of studio folks lamenting his divorce in a weho apartment. zevon chapter (and all the other vignettes) were fire though. if you like la stories, i suggest the all night menu editions. sam sweet lives up to his name.

If you like going to the movies and have a selection of AMCs near you it’s an unbelievably good deal. Even at my most destitute I have refused to cancel this membership because it’s basically a free activity anytime and a fun little date with myself. 3 movies a week for $25/month??? I will never shut up about this.

Film Forum is the OG but Metrograph is younger and hungrier, with a more diverse slate of films and an emphasis on rediscovered or neglected classics. Great atmosphere too, with a restaurant and bookstore. you can’t go wrong!

The whole staff just sang happy birthday to some guy in the kitchen. All the patrons are diner people. At least at this hour. Forks crash into plates and knives scrape butter and jam on toast. It’s the perfect volume. Want to read my book but too content. Want to get pancakes but trying to stay light. Dont want to feel it in my face.

And I want to post it here. It’s tasteful and it’s art. Do I have your consent to post it here?

I brought the blanket and pillows from my bed onto the living room couch. I brewed a cup of coffee and had a bowl of cold cereal. I’m sad  from private matters and tired from them too. I haven’t been able to watch sports at home in years. Haven’t had cable since I moved out of my parents. My buddy gave me his youtube tv login and I put on my favorite basketball team, The New York Knicks. I’ve become one with the couch, melted into the fibers and no club soda nor dog piss cleaner will dissolve me out. 3 quarters into this game and I’m feeling a thousand times better about the private and temporary matters which burden.
