Just read one of the greats? Something that was maybe a little hard to get through with because of the themes, the writing style or the general length? I highly recommend a literary palate cleanser before you pick up your next tough read. Something easy that you'll breeze through - a book that can be read in a couple of sittings. Something you don't have to show off on socials or read in public but with rinse your brain clean of the previous read for the next one. I just read "Boyfriend Material" by Alexis Hall in a day as a car wash for my mind and it was perfect. Anything romance-y or soapy or aimed at young adults is perfect for this.

I'm reading like eight books right now, all at a startlingly slow pace. BUT! What makes this more manageable is to have variety in genre and difficulty. This heightens the chance that one of the books in your arsenal will be appealing at any given moment. This is my easy one right now. Large text, memoir, silly, not trying too hard to be anything. The story of a perfectly ordinary girl growing up in Sunnyvale in the 60s and 70s who still managed to be quirked up.

something easy and kind of dumb that I can read for like 15 hours.. it’s like taking your brain out of your head and rinsing it in the sink… total emotional and mental reset

it’s just under 300 pages and it’s definitely kind of a Basic novel, but i enjoyed it. i finished it in like 3 days, which surprised me considering what a reading slump i found myself in after reading a string of really intense political non-fiction and kind of burning myself out on reading.
it definitely served its purpose for that reason and overall i’d say worth the read.

truly no greater joy than picking the movie you want to see at a time you want to see it, eating your own popcorn and settling into a dark cinema seat. It’s the best viewing experience to be off your phone, not thinking about anything but the image in front of you.

Book covers are literally designed to get you to pick them up. They are specifically targeted to a certain type of person, so if you like it then there is a high chance you'll love the book.

A better alternative to goodreads - it is so much sleeker in UX design and creates fun charts and graphs with your read books. Plus, it’s not owned by Amazon (like goodreads is) fuck capitalism, get StoryGraph.
