Techno in downtown Manhattan is a rare thing. They have a decently relaxed door policy, pretty strong lineup most of the time, a wonderful lack of burning man vibes, and a decent non alcoholic selection.

full disclosure i work with the venue but that is only because i went and loved it so much. it’s perfect. some things about it:
- the dance floor is an immersive art installation - incredible bookings of up and coming artists and big names by the co-owner/operator and creative director who is herself a dj - the sound is so good its insane. perfectly tuned and balanced - the dance floor has some ā€œgiveā€ to it so it’s wicked comfy to dance on — i never get sore - there’s COAT HOOKS *on* the dance floor - the drinks are delish. theres this one cocktail called ā€œthe coffeeā€ it is to die for. there’s a sick happy hour but drink prices are always reasonable - the bathrooms are made for selfies but in a genuinely cool way - the dance floor is intimate but there’s tons of seating and tables and places to chill throughout the rest of the venue (and you can hear all the music on the same sound system) - the service is insanely good everyone who works there is so kind - i never once have felt awkward or out of place there it’s just such a good vibe and i always make new friends
there’s more but i can’t put it all in one post or i’ll be here all night

People are constantly asking me where to go out in New York, but that’s kind of a hard question to answer. What I try to encourage people to do is get together with a group of people they love and go somewhere they would normally never go. People are far too fucking pretentious about their nightlife in this city and if you’ve spent every weekend for the last three months at Basement or Bossa or whatever, you’re probably chasing something you’ll never actually catch. I have the most fun when my friends go somewhere out of our ordinary, with people we’d never normally associate with. All of this to say: It’s ok to go dance at ACME sometimes.

songs stink. insane amount of product placement. does that thing where it tries (& fails) to portray tiktok/social media and it just comes off as embarrassing. confusing target demographic. only went to see it because i felt like going to the theater w/my friend. not worth the money at all. spend ur time watching something better

obviously a little immoral. don’t pirate every book you read. physical books are cooler anyway. but having access to such a wealth of information for free is so beautiful and shouldn’t be demonized. being able to find & read out of print or rare books through torrenting or little downloads is bonkers. people a century ago couldn't have dreamt of something like this

fixing my sleep schedule was a big priority while working with my therapist a couple years ago. set strict rules of no caffeine after 3pm (it affects ur sleep even if you think it's not), eat/drink things that will naturally improve circadian rhythm (e.g. chamomile tea), etc. also they don't fucking lie about putting your phone down at least 30 mins before going to sleep, it seriously improves sleep quality. find a book u enjoy and just read for 30 mins before bed instead. if ur having trouble with insomnia take melatonin but no more than ~3mg (any more has proven to be ineffective & possibly slightly detrimental to ur sleep schedule)
