Idk, Iām just tired of pop music girlies and need to listen to TV static, artful feedback, distorted drones, dissonant layers. Kim Gordonās SYR5, Glenn Brancaās The Ascension, Black Diceās Broken Ear Record. Am I crazy for loving this?
No , we are the normal ones and everyone else is crazy. Been on a big Glenn Branca / Arto Lindsay kick for the past few weeks. Also highly recommend other 80s avant-garde/no wave people like Rhys Chatham, DNA, Theoretical Girls (Brancaās band). I also highly recommend late 80s/early 90s Boredoms, who are a lot more playful and colorful and remind me of the noisier tendencies of bands like Animal Collective
Everything on Ghost Box records evokes the weird & eerie folk horror-infused atmosphere I love. Iām also obsessed with songs that feature someone straight up talking or reading over music, so this is checking every box for me at the moment. Iām also trying to make stuff like this myself rn and finding inspiration in their catalog, so Iām shuffling through their stuff and Advisory Circle and Pye Cornet Audio et al, all wonderful.
Einstürzende Neubauten really scratches that summer itch for me. For the noise-curious, not ready to commit crowd, I suggest starting with Hause der Lüge (1989).
TME is Iglooghostās most conventional album and it still makes me fucking crazy ā like Iām freebasing nicotine and cocaine at the same time, while on one of those rollercoasters that drops at a 90-degree angle. Part of that disorienting feeling, this time around, comes from textures and sounds I didnāt expect: post-punk drums on āCoral Mimicā; the electro beat on āNemat0deā. Iām sick to death of āgenrelessā music; Tidal Memory Exo was a genre unto itself.
