Maury was Jim Croce’s writing partner and playing companion up and until 1973 when both Jim and Maury would sadly pass in plane crash departing one of their last stops on a run of tour dates. Maury was 24 years old at the time of the crash, him and Jim had written records together in the past yea, prior to teaming up with Jim, He had released the Gingerbreadd Album at age 21 and it‘s insane. My Favorite Tracks are “One Last Chance” & “Rocky Mountains” but tbh they’re all sick there is even a track titled Mister Bainbridge. I was fortunate enough to get myself a vinyl copy of the original capital release a few months back and cherish it. Additionally Maury wrote on Fever Dream by Loggins & Messina.. Maury’s older sister Mary runs a memorial/fan page on Facebook in honor of her brother detailing old stories and quiddities of his life that often bring and to tears and displays the tireless devotion she‘s committed to preserving the memory of Maury and his Music.

I never see anyone talking about my king Jim Croce i’ve loved him ever since i waslittle and he’s still prob my favortie artist of all time. Super cool folk dude from the 60s he passed away in a plane crash which pushed him into the mainstream but i never met someone my age who likes him like i do. My favorite song is speedball tucker but i recommend listening to “you don’t mess around with Jim” or ”time in a bottle“ or “hard times be over“ (which is a fire song by him and his wife Ingrid Croce)

I used to think I hated country music; it was for hicks.  Then I discovered Gram and my whole perspective changed. The Byrds’ “Sweetheart of the Rodeo.” The Flying Burrito Brothers’ first two albums. The Stones’ “Wild Horses” and “Dead Flowers” were no doubt influenced by Gram hanging around at Nellcote. And his solo work (especially with Emmylou Harris); “Grievous Angel” is a masterpiece. We probably don’t have a Nudie Suit cult, “Far Away Eyes” or alt-country without Gram. Gone way too soon at the age of 26.  Cosmic American Music for the kids.  IYDKNYK

I grew up in Long Beach, CA thinking that country music was for hicks and rednecks. The late, great Gram is one of the artists that changed my mind about that, could help me see that country had its own sort of soul to it. Gram actually WAS a compulsive truth-bender so “No, I wouldn’t lie You know I’m not that kinda guy” Is actually just another of his many fibs. But how can you not love a dude this heartbroken and talented? 💔 This song, right here, is the beginning of my lifelong love affair with pedal steel guitar. (Thanks to Sneaky Pete for the amazing playing on this Flying Burrito Bros. classic).
