You work a 2.75 hour shift every 6 weeks in exchange for the best groceries & prices in the city. Same idea as washing the dishes at the end of your meal when you come up short on the bill. It's funny walking around a grocery store with hundreds of people and realizing they're all your co-workers. Great exercise in teamwork & cooperation. I wish more businesses were run this way

🛒I’m a member of the co-op in my neighborhood (it’s the one that was featured on Broad City not to flex) and every 4 weeks I go in to work as a cashier for 2.5 hrs.
I love my little shift because there are so many characters that come through.
The mom and her daughter who always get the biggest grocery haul ever and then leave it for me to babysit while they go to another grocery store down the street.
The married couple who is always fighting (and not in a cute fun way) as I’m ringing them up.
The esoteric old Brooklyn man with thick glasses who is always down to strike up a conversation.
It’s so fun to be embedded in my neighborhood in this way and meet so many people in passing. And I love talking to people about what they’re buying and making for dinner and learning about strange and exotic produce I’ve never seen before.

Nice to order when I want to hang out with my friends at a bar but don't feel like drinking. Tastes great and gives you something to do with your hands. I like this black walnut one a lot. I always admire when friends go out without drinking, it's such a power move

I've been tormented by squeaky hardwood floors in old apartment buildings for years, and recently realized I can just fix them myself super easily. I bought this kit called Squeeeeek No More from Lowes for like $25 - it has special screws whose heads break off just below your floor boards once they're pulled snugly against the joists beneath them. The hardest part is learning to predict where your joists are, but it's pretty simple once you find the first one.
It's really easy to just learn to tune out the things that ambiently annoy you about your apartment every single day, and I think life gets way better when you realize it's usually easier than you think to fix them (i.e. home improvement serenity prayer). There's an obvious satisfaction to building with your hands and learning how things work, but most importantly there's a clear payoff at the end when you get to enjoy a way nicer apartment
