after moving away from the us, my ears have become very sensitive to conversations happening around me in english. feeling uninspired and uninteresting? head to your local cafe and pretend to write (or actually write) about what you’re hearing all around you 💋
this authumn my go-to grounding activity has become visiting my favourite cafe and listening to all the gossip and action happening around me. yesterday as i was drinking my tea and trying to read a bell hooks book, four british girls were loudly discussing how they wipe their bums. of course i couldn't read and had to listen and reflect on my own techniques. then on my right was a first date (?) where a french man was desperately trying to teach a girl this new card game. they were struggling. oh and last week i witnessed another very cringey first date where the guy was trying to guess his date's age for about ten minutes.
i can't recommend ethical and harmless eavesdropping enough. makes me feel ALIVE!
i’m currently in film school, so this is essentially a standard practice for me to get inspired and discover other people’s stories. quite fun, and you realize how many people live such different lives. i honestly wish i could transcribe each and every one of these outside conversations.
sleep in
make a big pot of coffee
catch up on articles from bed
*bonus points if you have a breakfast tray, newspapers, magazines, and buttered toast*
put on some elevator music
roll around
