Black and white polish movies aren’t as severe as their Hungarian counterparts(hi, Bela Tarr) but they carry just as much mystery and style. Plus there’s a bit of sensuality. Never has the phrase, “I love him and that’s that” sounded more doomed or sexy.

Also another one deserving of a solo recommendation. So so relevant to our current societal and cultural contexts.

my favorite movie of the last ~decade, from my favorite filmmaker. I think this is one of the most riveting films in recent memory, so dark, moody, and grimly romantic. unreal levels of passion and desire going on here. some of the best camera work i've ever seen, park knows how to direct a damn movie. i love it, and i think it just got slightly overshadowed due to when it came out in relation to the pandemic, but it has it's fans. in another world this film would be absolutely massive

surreal, haunting, visually stunning. slow but if you give it the chance really compelling. makes good use of the drama of film and especially black and white cinematography(to me, makes it a must see). plus with costumes designed by coco herself !! other recs: - in the mood for love - the umbrellas of cherbourg - singing in the rain

Oh you liked that one movie? But did you watch every movie the dp ever touched did you stalk the director and propose did you find out every actors birthday and send them a gift? Sounds like you didn’t really like the movie.
