I loved this band for a while but I started listening to this album after someone from work played Moonchild for me (unreal song).
Awesome Shibuya-kei/electronic vibes throughout, but also filled with super nerdy musical references (metal, lounge, 90s hip hop). Yeaaaaah its Kind of like if the Frost Children listened to Stan Getz and Dan the automator instead of Skrillex and Fall Out Boy. And if they were from Japan instead of like probably Minnesota or Connecticut or whatever. Sean Lennon was in the band at this point that's pretty cool. Miho hatori is so goated too I just learned the she was the original voice of Noodle in the Gorillaz.
Also this cover is fire, looks like Michel gondry adaptation of I'm blue daboodeedabodie!

L.A. band that has quite clearly spent a lot of time with a bunch of Madchester-era music (Happy Mondays but also Charlatans influences; is there a baggy revival in progress?) and most especially MBV -- this track, "Soonish...", could literally be the secret final track on "Loveless" (right after "Soon," get it?). There's also more than a bit of Krautrock going on here; synth burbles pop up on every track and the groop is clearly into reverence-through-repetition in the same way as prime Stereolab (think of that band's endless psych-looping circa the 90s that channeled Can, Faust, Neu!, Popol Vuh, etc.). It might also be me but I also hear the faint echoes of Yo La Tengo on the album, too -- worth getting lost in it a bit, they're out playing shows in Europe and I can't wait to catch them when they hit NYC next.

haven’t been able to stop listening to this album - who knew east coast psychedelia was so cool? “mind flowers” could be a brian jonestown massacre precursor - also, modern music could use more spoken word poetry over heady guitar riffs, that’s just a fact.

i lovelovelove this band. awesome group that deserves more recognition. beautica is probably their more shoegazey album but cafe de flor (a track from that linked here) is my favorite, lots of really interesting electronic stuff. comfort band and huge inspo for me. i think you will like them have a listennnn

📌I remember a few weeks back there was some discourse about how good the band Failure is, and I want to use this opportunity to echo a growing appreciation I’ve been seeing for the 00s indie rock band Pinback. i really mess with their album Blue Screen Life (2001), super fun, melodic, bouncy guitar music with post hardcore guitars, sugary vocal harmonies and buzzy synthesizers.
While I think you’d obviously be into them if you’re into like Jimmy Eat World or Death Cab, I also would recommend for fans of The Postal Service, Frou Frou, Blonde Redhead, even like Unknown Mortal Orchestra or Stereolab. this some melancholic indie pop/post-emo with electronic elements and creative songwriting yall.

🦎Straight up not the movie I thought it was going to be. I was expecting like Planet of the Apes/King Kong style hijinks and this movie reminded me of Dunkirk, Hiroshima Mon Amour, Shoplifters, and Neon Genesis Evangelion while still basically having blockbuster qualities. kind of refreshing and epic
