🎬
glam rock horror musical featuring a foppish singer named Beef dressed as a reanimated zombie performing a cantata about Faust. The phantom becomes disfigured when his face is squished in a record press, very rock n' roll.

tank girl (1995) dir. rachel talalay, possession (1981) dir. andrzej zulawski, anything by john waters, probably some brian de palma films. you'd probably also enjoy giallo horror films; i liked suspiria (1977, NAWT the remake), opera, and inferno.

This movie is bonkers. Part satire, part horror, part realist drama and set in 1930s Hollywood, The Day of the Locust follows Tod Hackett–a production illustrator–through chaotic and ill-fated scenarios centered around his love-interest Faye Greener (who is almost certainly an inspiration for Pearl). It’s got everything: female rage, cockfights, annoying children (who are ultimately a product of their parent’s negligence and a culture obsessed with spectacle to the point that they ignore real violence), gold digging, cowboys, cannibalism, and rioting.

I love my little NYTimes games ritual (start with easy Sudoku, then medium Sudoku, Connections, Crossword, hard Sudoku, Tiles, and finally Spelling Bee if I feel really locked in). Still, the brain health benefits and fun of these puzzles feel diminished when I realize this is HOURS of unnecessary screen time. I switched my daily puzzle ritual from online to a paperback, and I have never been happier. I feel so zen doing my sudoku outside like a fucking monk.
