Anyone that knows me is tired of hearing about olympic weightlifting, but still I must put it here. Don’t talk to me about powerlifting, I couldn’t care less. I got into olympic weightlifting about 7 years ago, and will probably continue doing it for the rest of my life. Professional weightlifting competitions are also very fun to watch and local competitions are fun to partake in.

I got into weight lifting for the same reason I get into most things, which is pure unbridled vanity. I read or heard somewhere in my many biohacker information channels that weight lifting is the most anti-aging form of exercise, especially for women, and so I was like on my way! I wasn’t about to pay some community college bro $100 an hour at my LA Fitness to train me though so I just googled “weight lifting classes near me” and because I live a charmed and bless life I found the fucking coolest independent gym like a mile from my house and have been going there for almost a year. Vanity aside, it just makes you feel so good all the time. I love watching myself get stronger and I love the feeling after you lift something really heavy you thought you could never have lifted and I love all the neighborhood friends I’ve made there, including former PI subject and possibly coolest girl alive Petra Cortright. (Honestly a large part of my social life takes place there?) Anyway everyone over 30 should lift weights, preserve your waning muscle mass and build up your self-esteem babe.

Beyond shocking development for anyone who knows me off the internet. I’ve gotten so strong and feel like a badass lifting the big bar over my head (and then waddling around the city for days afterwards remembering what I did). Never thought I’d do something like this but I’m so glad I gave it the ole college try and am putting that rec out to anyone else who has hesitated about CrossFit specifically but wants to get stronger/have more workout structure/protect from injury (vs just running)/build gym community.

hear me out... i dont like working out in the regular style i.e. running on a treadmill and doing lunges because i'm bad at that and i get bored. a few years ago i started Lifting lifting like powerlifting style but i don't eat enough to actually powerlift so all i end up doing is like 250lb deadlifts. it's not that much. but it makes you feel like you can punch through a wall

Probably once or twice a month, maybe more in the winter months, I spiral enough to start searching for entirely new jobs that I have no experience in in new cities. These usually include farm work or something to do with being at a vineyard or anything that requires being outside. I think I find comfort in the idea that I really could always pick up and start a new life, even if I don’t want it - like the exit is always there.

When is the last time you sat down outside and watched some bugs? They’re small and beautiful and make the world go round. Some of my favorite childhood memories include turning over rocks in the desert, looking for centipedes and scorpions with my dad. I highly recommend watching some bugs go about their day; bees and ants are especially enthralling.

NOTHING in this world has brought me more comfort than a bean and cheese burrito, and I have been making the same bean and cheese burritos since 2006. The greatest at home bean and cheese burrito is made with Tortilla Land uncooked flour tortillas, whole pinto beans, extra sharp Tillamook cheddar, and chipotle tabasco. I don’t want to hear it about the cheddar cheese, there are no acceptable substitutes.
