Last week i said "chess is out," "chess is finished" but that's just because I was losing a lot. i lost 150 elo points in the last month. i felt like the rat from Flowers for Algernon. in that book, the rat got stupid and then died. but last night i watched an informative video and then strung together 6 wins in a row. chess is back

sam_mercauto27 the video was just one in a youtube series- Northernlion plays chess. he's my favorite streamer/youtuber and he just plays roughly 1500 rated chess and analyzes his games after

brendog Couldn’t agree more. Been on such a tear playing IRL and online lately; would you be willing to share the video with me? I keep trying to find ways to improve my game but I don’t love the videos I’ve been attempting to utilize for that purpose. Or if not the specific video…at least something in that neck of the woods?

Playing Chess

I think probably the most brilliant game. To me playing chess is sort of a return to my childhood. I randomly had the thought about 6 months ago like “why don’t i just start to play chess again?” and I am happy I did. also didn’t realize how many dear friends of mines were also chess fanatics until I started playing more… I think when you just really dive into little things you enjoy you get rewarded for it. Chess is awesome and it works your brain.

I’m no good, and probably not patient enough, but I’ve been playing chess for the last couple of weeks on chess.com and it’s been a nice way to “take a breather” — letting my thoughts focus solely on executing some master plan to take down my opponent. It’s fun to strategize and see it follow through, or learn from my mistakes when I’m inevitably outsmarted. Shorter time-based matches get super hectic towards the end which is a whole other dynamic.
