I’ve only done a couple so far and I’ve gone back and re-read them (realizing I was high and am no Pauline Kael) only to instantly notice they are somewhat cringe and definitely not well-written…but hey, fuck it. I love cinema, folks! Follow me! Let’s talk FILM.

I keep telling myself that being genuine is the new cynicism-fueled irony…but…

If its not a smug/quippy/ironic one liner review battling for likes is it even a letterboxd review?

I’ve struggled with the decision to express my actual thoughts or have a funny line for quite a while. This way you can divulge into intelligentsia and then have a quip as a little button. Also, I think the formatting in italics is to die for.
Minutely related: I saw The Taste of Things and do recommend it!

A joint and a coffee is conventionally accepted as a ā€œhippy speedball;ā€ but given that I’ve quit smoking (my formerly beloved cigarettes, in particular) for all intents and purposes over the last couple years…edibles are my preferred method of marijuana ingestion (if any). Regardless of how you do it…the up and down is beloved for a reason. Mix in a little spiritual jazz…Pharoah Sanders’ golden age is my favorite, personally…now you’re cooking, ladies and germs. Just don’t overdo it on dosage. Then you’ll be feeling way too spiritual and the lightness is tarnished.

Such a haunting, devastatingly beautiful piece of acoustic brilliance from the late-great outlaw country singer-songwriter. People like him and Townes Van Zandt truly elevated the genre to a form of high art with their gorgeous, lived-in lyricism.

It’s been discussed here and there on this platform through different recommendations before, BUT I feel that there’s an almost holy level of beauty to Sunday slow-start rituals that needs to be emphasized. Maybe you sleep in a little longer than during a harried work week, maybe you randomly wake up early and quietly steep yourself in the sunlight as it starts to filter into your favorite room in your space, perhaps a physical edition of a Sunday newspaper or periodical to thoughtfully consider (or even to just sort of stare at), slow-sipping that delicious caffeinated beverage you start each and every day with, some warm and cozy jazz or folk accenting the proceedings in the background (centering you spiritually). Treat yourself. Life can rule if you let it.
