My friend Carly Mark is a genius artist, making work about the female gaze, body horror and conspicuous consumption. But now you can conspicuously consume Puppets and Puppets, the high meets low endless design experiment sheās running like itās Gucci in the Tom Ford era only EVERYONE is invited. Gender, size- sheās blowing up all the binaries of fashion. It aināt cheap, but the prices reflect couture level production, fascinating fabrics and playfully sinister details (a demure Mary Jane with a wooden wedge of cheese for a heel, a chic little purse with a resin black and white cookie slapped on its front in place of logo hardware.) This is high fashion for the kid who liked to layer macaroni necklaces, for the former Emily The Strange who now works in branding, for any person who wants to add āart witchā to their resume. Carly has made me a few dresses and whenever I wear them, I feel like I can change the world with the power embedded in the layered skirts. Itās also so genderfluid that my husband can (and does) steal.

This shit. This shit bangs. So this guy, if you donāt know who he is, he made those crazy fucking alien looking freak shoes for Lady Gaga in the āBad Romanceā MV. He was cooking. The top half of this? Microscope slides dyed red. the bottom half? OSTRICH FEATHERS. Apparently it sounded like chimes when you walked because, like, youāre slapping a bunch of little glass slides together. I wouldnāt know, Iām not Bjork so like I havenāt worn this thing (she has in fact worn this thing).

this is one of my favorite brands. part art project, part label. they specialized in upcycling. founded by matthew damhave andĀ tara subkoff. taraās also an actress, and sheās the reason i chopped my hair off. sheās got the best blonde lob in this movie called all over me. their shows were always a little bizarre. one of my favs is spring 2006, where most of the models are handcuffed, and scarjo wears some fab jeans. i have been in the ebay trenches for years to no avail, but i know iāll own a piece some day

Itās not that easy. It takes work. And itās a power you must not abuse. But if you can give a fuck about the right things- your loved ones, your passions, the needs of an ailing world- and not about the wrong ones- OPP aka other peopleās perceptions- you are freed from a certain sort of tyranny and your life force will be tripled. Most people have inherited judgements about the world that even they donāt understand, so why should you? Youāre stronger, smarter and chicer than that! And youāll be shocked by how much of what you thought would always be your reality can be shifted using the renewed energy that comes from DGAF.Ā
Since life is not linear, sometimes youāll think youāve nailed not giving a fuck and then something anxiety inducing or unkind or even mundane but alarming will happen and you SUDDENLY really really do give a fuck. Thatās okay. But returning to a baseline level of DGAF is a good goal, so keep your eye on the prize.Ā

Last time I recommended kittens. I still recommend kittens. But Iāve expanded my roster and wow, pigs are amazing. Theyāre not easy pets- they require a lot of focus, patience and gentle discipline- but they are so fucking smart and they have wonderful senses of humor. Victor, my boy, has a passion for unplugging lamps and yanking them off the table, then running away laughing. Itās not a bit that would work for everyone- heās sort of an Andy Kaufman absurdist- but I think heās hilarious.
