there was this new york times story on a couple buying a fire island house and discovering 200 tapes of dj sets between 1979 and 1999, and a sound engineer has been digitizing them and more are still uploading. it’s a lovely time portal and does more to set a mood for me than any ambient pop usually can, plus it tickles my crown chakra or whatever to feel some sort of connection to generations past.

A website of forest recordings sent in from people all over the world ✨🌎🎧 My friend texted me a link to this last night and I fell asleep listening to it. The photographs that accompany the recordings are stunning 🥹 Highly rec for anyone feeling the eco-doom 🫂

a comprehensive 30GB archive of the noise-arch.net digitized tape collection, entirely comprised of D.I.Y tapes from the 80s and 90s. Lots of noise, strange sound art, homemade music, and some field recordings. the archive.org link on this post is the full download (which I recommend if you have an external hard drive), but there’s also a link on that page to an easy-to-explore collection of the tapes (it's unfortunately not as comprehensive as the full download, but it's good if you just want a taste). I’ll most likely make a few other posts with tapes I find that I really enjoy! super wonderful to hear pre-internet-dominance independent music. cultural time capsules, deeply emotional at times

i was gifted an ipod for my birthday which made me want to return to a more meaningful relationship with music, a step back from streaming. bandcamp is a beautiful creation and this one of my favorite finds. some beautiful acoustic folk tunes, recorded on a subway station nonetheless! you can actively hear trains on certain songs, which only adds to the sonic experience 🚊

classic episodes run seven to eight minutes. perfect for ambient viewing while you’re making breakfast or winding down before bed. as a kid i would sit in front of the TV munching on an unpeeled carrot and FEEL like bugs.

i’m getting old by m. night shyamalan because i’m collecting stuff like notepads from hotels now. but they really are a lovely little memento, and in this time-collapsed era it’s nice to look at stationery and think “oh right, i stayed at the ace hotel when my heater broke last winter.”

my therapist has pointed out that i almost never “lead” in courtship and i should try being a closer for a goddamn change. and i must say… it’s fun. and it usually works as long as you’re not a fucking dweeb about it. so just let that stare linger a hair longer because you neeeever know.
