Public parks are great places to post up, see friends and kick back in the company of people in yr community who might not hang out at the same bar u do ⊠This was true before the pandemic and itâs true today. A few years ago someone gave me a lightweight (6 oz?) canvas drop-cloth that has gotten very soft with time & now we toss it in a backpack & bring it with us to parks & on hikes. If you donât have a picnic blanket already you can cop a ~$12 canvas drop-cloth from a local hardware or paint-supply store. You could use this to re-paint a room at the crib or make some art -- any âprocess splattersâ will just make your picnic look more beautiful.

If youâre from brooklyn or new york city or just moved here, i know, this is cliche. But i! Donât! Care! The truffle popcorn is addicting, even if I'm farting for the rest of the movie, itâs worth it. Plus they have cute little trailers to gab about with your date or friend, but i also go alone because nobody tried to have small talk with you at the movies and you can just disassociate peacefully in blissful high-power air conditioning on a hot nyc summer day. They have guest curators on a monthly basis and do fun screenings of old flicks. Highly recommend it. Nitehawk > Alamo.

Anthology 10 dollars a lot of lesser known avant garde films mixed in with art/foreign films. most things are also projected on film. really good place if your looking for something different.
Moma is like 10 dollars too but if youâre a student you can get a free entry ticket which allows for a free movie ticket you just have to ask the desk. Moma has alot of stuff on film also and is always putting up classics And retrospectives on filmmakers
Momi is also 10 and has a ton of cool 35mm more mainstream films always playing such as kubrick or Micheal mann.museumâs section is also cute especially if you like the muppets.
Lincon center is a good place to go see indies/foreign movies that have come out recently also around 10 dollars also do some retrospectives remasters and 35mm screenings
Spectacle is a community run Brooklyn theater that is one room and plays obscure cinema very fun place to go out to with friends and see something different.
Roxy has some good 35mm screenings good date place to take someone.very comfy inside this fancy hotel downside is little more expensive but overall one of the better theater experiences in New York. Warning hipster central however đ

Again, I'm using this category as an umbrella so I can list my favorite movies that I think by watching will make everyone's life better or at least distract you from whatever bullshit is going on in your own life for a moment, and put a smile on your face. Maybe you'll even relate to what the characters in the films are going through and you'll feel a little bit less alone and it will change your life forever. These are my favorite movies that I watch over and over again: An Unmarried Woman, Swingers, Annie Hall, Broken English, Girlfriends. Last Days of Disco, and Hannah and Her Sisters. And one of my favorite theaters to watch movies in in New York City is Metrograph. A sanctuary. A safe haven. The programming is extraordinary. And they have a wonderful restaurant upstairs called The Commissary. Run don't walk.

You donât actually need whatever s**t is in yr cart, and at the very least you donât need it boxed up and rush delivered in <24 hours by workers whose quotas mean they canât take bathroom breaks baby!! (Also Amazon stole millions of dollars in driver tips â true slimeball s**t, look it up!!) The âitâs so convenientâ argument is weak, youâre not that busy, player, go for a walk, bet you thereâs a store in yr hood that sells that same s**t â cop it there, even if it costs a few dollars more. If there *isnât* a good store in yr hood, itâs because Amazon helped kill it, making your neighborhood less VIBRANT, so f**k âem for doing that, donât reward them with more $$... And if itâs about wanting to watch movies and shows, pfffft get Criterion like a grown-up ; )

This is an animal-rights group that, among other things, breaks into factory farms to document abuse and liberate suffering cuties. Whatever yr thoughts are about eating animals, if you have a soul you can agree that factory farming is deeply heinous nightmare evil s**t, and in fighting against it, these activists are doing tremendously hard, brave and lonely work â so throw âem some bucks and / or help âem out in other ways!!

Binoculars are a great technology for not looking at yr phone and instead looking with sustained attention at cool s**t that you otherwise might just let fly by you unnoticed â birds, literally and most obviously, but also any other intriguing visual phenomenon, like for instance incredible lichen growing somewhere high up. If you are doing a picnic (see above), bring some binoculars and see whatâs in the trees. If you donât have any, get a pair at a local place or cop some secondhand online. I have a pair of simple Nikon Prostaff 7S 10x42s that I like; you could get those or something more compact⊠check out standard-issue Nikons or Bushnells, or drop more $$ on some Fujinons or Leicas. Just be careful not to get anything so cheap & s**ty that itâll work badly and bum you outâŠ
