Explaining your unorthodox religious views to someone

They’re probably more orthodox but it usually goes like this: “Oh hey Mariano! Do you have any religious beliefs?” “Yeah, I guess similar to Tom Holland’s approach, my morals and ethics are traditionally found in Christian orthodoxy, but in a social justice + advocating for the poor + gender equality sort of view.” “Oh so…not like American evangelical?” “No more like a Bonhoeffer’s “smoke a pack of cigs a day and participate in assassination attempts towards fascist leaders” type of Christianity.” “…oh…”
Anyways — the whole theologian / spy to help an assassination attempt on Hitler and being put in a concentration camp with his only request being cigs to smoke and fighting against injustice type of Christianity > whatever we’re seeing from the RNC right now. Some would say this is very “unchristian” and “very progressive” and they’d be wrong and uneducated.
