I donā€™t play as many video games as Iā€™d like to these days, but I absolutely adore the deep dive gamer-documentaries that Nick Robinson makes on Youtube. He does these insane vlog meets documentary meets investigative journalism meets internet archivist videos that sometimes explore games I have no knowledge about whatsoever but theyā€™re so freaking high production and entertaining. He has like 3 videos dedicated to the discontinued Dominoā€™s Pizza app that ran in Japan and featured an augmented reality Hatsune Miku function that I adore. We met him when we were in Texas earlier this year and heā€™s very chill. His videos bring niche lore to the masses and leave with you a sense of contentment and resolve. The future of journalism and documentaries is in Youtubers like Nick Robinson.

You too need both 6 hour deep dives into Japanese dating sim games only to end up wait forever for new videos. Personal, deep, mechanical, what a filmmaker.

Ant Lab - cool close up & slow motion videos of bugs, & something abt the guyā€™s mannerisms is just ridiculously endearing Biblaridion - really into linguistics & makes conlangs (cool), but i really love the alien biosphere series!!! itā€™s a speculative evolution project where heā€™s just creating a whole world from scratch Cor Canish - makes a bunch of stuff abt Elder Scrolls, really really fun & editing is remarkable Featureman - a lovely old man makes cheap but (probably) yummy food & talks to u 4 a while. heā€™s really funny League of Pigs - lots of happy & well loved pigs race for the championship (to the food trough) Myron Cook - another lovely old man, does geological investigations into bizarre rock structures. equally good for learning or falling asleep Steve Wallis - another lovely (oldish, not really) man, makes stealth camping videos. total cutie Worthikids - really fun animations!!!! & featureman voiced a character in Bigtop Burger <333

probably the best letā€™s play series on YouTube. Incredibly chill japanese guy (English subs donā€™t worry) plays through Minecraft for the first time with zero tutorial or outside help. as such he really reignites the magic that we all felt playing the game for the first time, the apparent mysteriousness and endlessness of its world becomes real again. on his adventure he decides that the goal of the game for him is to just travel in one direction, building a massive 1-block bridge across the entire world. his bizarre dedication to this goal eventually overtakes the entire series, which, in a world where Minecraft letā€™s play content is so focused on beating the game in essentially the same way (often in the most heavily optimised speed run route possible), is a reminder of the gameā€™s true sandbox nature. Also the guy is the creator of some of the internetā€™s most famous viral horror videos, e.g. username666, which basically invented analog horror as a genre

The mysterious online entity known only as ā€œDJ Wallh4xā€ released this project on Club Cringe back in 2021. Every moment scratches every fold of your brain. Although the samples on the album range from cute video game references to church hymn vibes, thereā€™s an undeniable evilness in every track. I listened to the whole album in the shower the other morning and had such a glorious day after. Favorite tracks ā€œBMORA CLUBā€, ā€œBuy Modeā€, ā€œCrazy Handā€.

Spaghett = Miller High Life with Aperol and lemon juice, perfect beverage to sip at Rebeccaā€™s while Christian shows us his favorite folk punk bands. I canā€™t tell you how many soul crushing anti-folk and twee shit Iā€™ve heard with one of these beverages in my hand. Sometimes weā€™ll even hit the CDJs at Rebeccaā€™s on a Monday night fueled by Spaghetts. Iā€™m scheming on a full breakcore remix of the entire album ā€œBuilding Nothing Out of Somethingā€ by Modest Mouse and debuting it there.

Being a DJ is one of the coolest things you can do in 2022. Iā€™d like to live in a world where everyone DJs during lunch break, after work, before bed. The anime series ā€œD4DJ: First Mixā€ is an idyllic example of such a place. When you meet someone new and youā€™re talking about music and you say ā€œthis one hits when I spin it at the clubā€ or ā€œI have a really cool remix of that on my USBā€, your hotness increases so much. My first DJ set was in high school at Utopia Studios in St. Louis, Missouri and I played so much festival dubstep to a crowd of unknowing prep school kids. Since then itā€™s been much more of the same.
