It’s like a film class that you make your own curriculum for. I honestly never really liked movies that much until I got a subscription. It seemed like too much work to try and understand the whole history of cinema. Now I realize that film making is an art form that’s made of all the other art forms. Music and sound, photography, painting, sculpture, writing, story telling. My life is changed.

this is hands down the best subscription i have. $11 a month, zero ads, collections curated by real people instead of ai, and so many amazing movies. if you care about film you should have this subscription. if you have to, use it to replace hulu or netflix or disney+ or whatever other multi-billion dollar streaming platform that keeps jacking up the prices while implementing ads simultaneously. they don't deserve your money anyway.

Cancel your Netflix account and get a Criterion subscription. It is a movie streaming service featuring an eclectic mix of classical and contemporary films. I recently watched The Maestro: King of the Cowboy artists. The movie follows Gerald Gaxiola, a man that quits his job and takes on the persona of the American Cowboy to make art for art's sake. It feels like I'm following suit. They had Two Lane Blacktop on there for a while starring young James Taylor and Dennis Wilson from the Beach Boys. That film prompted me to buy a car and travel across the country. There are so many other gems on there, it’s hard to miss.

You get 15% your first year if you sign up by April 30th. This came at a perfect time because I've been meaning to expand my film taste in order to prepare for my Letterboxd favorite four interview question for when I'm famous.

Rice is the best food. Perfect texture. I love any rice based dish. Sushi is probably humanity’s greatest culinary achievement.

Full of information, archives within archives. A lot of cool old government film clips and PSAs and science and educational films. Tons of books and audiobooks and really obscure/fringe writing from the whole spectrum of political thought as well as classics. Also going on the website wayback machine and looking for websites I made on Geocities when I was 12 is fun. Makes you feel like an archaeologist.

Instrumental is probably the wrong word, but ambient, noise, classical, electronic music, etc. music without words. I love lyrics and poetry, and listen to music with words a lot, but many times,  especially in headphones, when I listen to music I can hear my own thoughts better, and hearing someone else’s in there is too distracting.
