Remember that feeling when you were a kid of really fanning out about stuff. Never let that go. It’s easy to become jaded. But stay a fan. It feels so good to be a fan of something in a world full of jealous Shondas. For example I am Jerry Lewis’ biggest fan. Literally no one likes him as much as I do. Also to elaborate I think it’s good to prolong idiots bliss. I try to stay as mentally primitive with my “creative processes” as much as possible because that’s when you are the most prolific and uninhibited in your work. I would do anything to avoid getting bent out of shape or feeling held back. I’d rather shoot a movie on tape with no money than try to get something made for 3 years. Just churn stuff out and move on to the next big idea. Also yearning. I’ve been yearning a lot.

It no longer rules your life, lingers in the back of every thought, controls your free and occupied time, makes you feel like an utter pervert in the extent to which you seek out interviews and any online presence, nor sends you into an existential frenzy as to whether you have a crush on or want to be this person. You’re free! And now that you’re not wholly consumed with some talented stranger you can go back to enjoying the work the way you did right before it turned into a full blown obsession but now there’s a warm fondness from the time and intensity you’ve given to this thing you now know you love, the love that now makes this thing (album, movie, book, artwork, etc) a part of you and loving it is almost like loving yourself—hearing the song in public is like hearing the sound of the soft animal of your body (subdued to a whisper) and that’s all it is! something tender, something remembered, an embrace of something deeper, but not as destabilizing as it once was.

been running my newsletter project for a few months now - it makes basically no money and takes up a ton of my time, and i’ve frequently considered dropping it due to the tight budgetary situation i’m in atm. i am always glad i choose not to, and the reason why is simple - it is a project that people like enough to tell me directly that they like it, and that gives me motivation to keep being creative in my life generally big joel has this video where he says something along the lines of “it’s totally fine to make things because you think they will be popular, because you’re a human being and it’s natural to want to be recognized by other human beings.” of course you shouldn’t cater your entire worldview and personality for the whims of others, but it is perfectly fine (and frankly necessary for your mental health) to, from time to time, make a thing primarily because you think people will like it. it will give you the necessary confidence for you to pursue the moonshot when the time comes

I’ve loved Snoopy my whole life but became particularly fixated on him about four years ago. Since then it seems he’s sort of become a hot item or something because I see him now more than ever. But even before that, I’d see him in the world around me—in a puddle on the ground or a cloud in the sky where he wasn’t etc, but also just his actual face all around me in the avatar of an obscure youtube channel when I stumbled on an old favorite jazz song or on a sticker on a streetlight pole where I just so happened to stop to do some Important Contemplating. I’m so Snoopybrained that honestly when I see an image of Snoopy my brain lights up the same way it does when I see a photo of myself. And others associate me so strongly now with Snoopy that they say the same is true for them—that when they see a picture of him they think “hey, it’s Jill“. I don’t really care much for them Peanuts kids I’m in it for the dog. I just feel like he has a certain joie de vivre that has really inspired me through the years and so gracefully weaves genuine nonchalance with sincerity. He is also not afraid to be a little bit of a hater and a stinker at times. When I lean against a wall hoping that it looks natural and uncalculated I am painfully aware that I am Joe Cool. And when I lock in (as I am occasionally wont to do) I am suddenly fighting my very own Red Baron. Am I a little bit autistic? Probably. But most importantly, if Snoopy has a million fans, then I am one of them. If Snoopy has ten fans, then I am one of them. If Snoopy has only one fan then that is me. And perhaps having read this, you too will join me in the ranks of Snoopy’s fans.

I’m going to be the first director to leave the bloopers in the movie. Why not.I love seeing people have a good time. When I watch the “Friends” gag reel It sends me to the moon. It gets me caught between the moon and New York City!!! What I would give to have been a part of something like that. Or a part of anything. I hope to be a part of something, anything, one day.

I think everyone just needs to have more compassion and stop being so annoying online. Everyone treats politics like fashion trends. Just be a good person.
