Owner of an old and porous home. I go with the classic snap trap. They are very effective. I like to bait them with extra small chocolate chips. People swear by peanut butter but I never liked the mess. It’s important to try to figure out where they are coming from. Mice tend to navigate against the edges of walls. It’s important to line the traps against the edges of whatever space you found them in. Dont be hesitant to put a bunch out. See where you catch them and double down on traps in that space.
Obviously clean clean clean, this help you track them and monitor if you’ve gotten them wiped out. Any big areas you find like abandoned holes for old plumbing for instance, use steel wool and spray foam to seal. Caulk or spray foam any gaps in walls or floorboards where you think they might be coming in.
Glue traps are not the best option. In my experience they seem kind of hard to bait and the mice tend to avoid those large trays. The couple times I caught mice with them it’s pretty gnarly, if you use them make sure you have the constitution to dispose of a squeaking still alive mouse.
All this sucks and is very stressful to have a pest invasion, sorry you’re dealing with this. Good luck, hope any of this helps.
