dude who wrote 2001. I dunno what to say except that it is one of the best sci-fi pieces or art i'v ever consumed.i like sci-fi as analogy / modern mythology. the most popular political critiques like star wars and matrix are subliminally about issues swept under the rug in mainstream discourse, but allowed and celebrated in fantasy setting, we see it explode with popularity.with real life or non-fiction we like to pretend things we don't like aren't happening, but we can face them in sci-fi.

đReally good 50s/60s sci-fi book, a history of America covering the several thousand years after a nuclear apocalypse in the 1960s from the point of view of an obscure catholic monastic order who preserve and worship pre apocalypse relics such as shopping lists and blueprints. Theres something deeper to it than a lot of the other pulp scifi from the era. The end is great, one of those books where you finish it and say âdamnâ quietly to yourself.

đObsessed with this Chinese sci-fi novel right now. It's putting to words a lot of the unavoidable existential dread that we're all trying to ignore. I'm not usually a big fan of super hard sci-fi because I'm for the most part scientifically illiterate, but this book does such a good job of making physics poetic and kind of horrifying.

Really interesting interdisciplinary speculative science book about the development of human intelligence, written in a lovely prosaic voice that makes it accessible to and engaging for anyone. There have been significant scientific advancements that add nuance and complexity to some of the ideas he discusses but itâs still useful as a conceptual framework for understanding and itâs interesting to see the conclusions he was able to draw with his brilliant mind based off of the limited information that was available at the time. He raises a lot of thought provoking questionsâits greatest value is as a philosophical textâand I think itâs still more than worth your time to read today.
âAs a consequence of the enormous social and technological changes of the last few centuries, the world is not working well. We do not live in traditional and static societies. But our government, in resisting change, act as if we did. Unless we destroy ourselves utterly, the future belongs to those societies that, while not ignoring the reptilian and mammalian parts of our being, enable the characteristically human components of our nature to flourish; to those societies that encourage diversity rather than conformity; to those societies willing to invest resources in a variety of social, political, economic and cultural experiments, and prepared to sacrifice short-term advantage for long-term benefit; to those societies that treat new ideas as delicate, fragile and immensely valuable pathways to the future.â

đ„Everyone hated this movie but i think it's an unappreciated piece of art and people are just neflix impatient / looking for comforting stuffâŠ.the trauma porn thing i don't get,these things happened, did they not? so what are they supposed to do, ignore it? that's not why i like it , just showing the struggles ...Malcolm x isn't called trauma porn? his dad was killed by the kkk... should they leave that out? fuck the haters,i've always been a Marilyn fan, fascinated at humans as inspiring art, like Brando or James Dean... didn't know much about her personally, but found the movie and music to be a beautiful work of art and full of interesting strong philosophical questions & statement.just so bored with the modern posturing. i hear a self appointed inquisitor grilling something mildly inoffensive & all i hear is a salem puritan accuser explaining why such and such witch should be burned or why such and such books should be burned. Because we're modern we think we're somehow beyond those instincts, but we are certainly not. i want progress, i'm just frustrated that the fight for equality and justice gets often hijacked by such thinking.
