Erin is at the forefront of trans journalism and focuses her daily newsletter on issues that every other major/minor news outlet is significantly underreporting on or ignoring altogether. Reedā€™s independent reporting is succinct in ways i personally appreciate because, while it is necessary to stay informed on current policies shifts as it affects my livelihood, I also canā€™t ruminate in it without giving way to a manically typing ā€œHOW TO LEAVE AMERICAā€ into my browser while I scarf down a Nerds Rope wishing things could be different. So, for that, Iā€™m fucking grateful she keeps it simple and accessible. Subscribe, share, subscribe, share. Her work is imperative to trans safety and liberation.

Had the pleasure of chatting with podcaster and media strategist Alyssa Vingan for this week's newsletter. While we operate in pretty different spheres (she: fashion, he: news/???) we still found a ton of commonality. Interested at all in media, or just persisting through some real sh*t, this is the one for you šŸ“§

By Erifili Gounari If Iā€™m gonna doomscroll, Substack gotta be the best app do to so. I love finding and subscribing to random people that talk about topics Iā€™m interested in. This article talks about the importance of acting out of sudden inspiration rather than at the ā€œperfect timeā€. Unfortunately, I do this often. Thereā€™s always something Iā€™m not ready for, knowledgeable enough for, capable of, etc. Her perspective felt really different to me because usually the articles I read on Substack are about an inherent indifference towards something in the authorā€™s life (their personality, the patriarchy, their phones) and this wasnā€™t that. She basically tells you toā€”in the words of Kim Kardashianā€”get your fucking ass up and work. Which I certainly have become way to comfortable not doing. Highly recommend for all the bed rotting divas out there. We gotta punch the clock cause itā€™s time to work!

meaghan garvey is our decadeā€™s hunter s. thompson. with origins / a focus in music journalism, she seems to just float through chaos and writes really well about it. she inspires me to talk to strangers and get into a little trouble every now and then

If youā€™re from brooklyn or new york city or just moved here, i know, this is cliche. But i! Donā€™t! Care! The truffle popcorn is addicting, even if I'm farting for the rest of the movie, itā€™s worth it. Plus they have cute little trailers to gab about with your date or friend, but i also go alone because nobody tried to have small talk with you at the movies and you can just disassociate peacefully in blissful high-power air conditioning on a hot nyc summer day. They have guest curators on a monthly basis and do fun screenings of old flicks. Highly recommend it. Nitehawk > Alamo.

A delicious, page turning Summer read and debut from novelist Nicola Dinan. It unpacks so many complicated nuances of being queer and in your twenties. Romantic, sexy, vulnerable. First romance centring a transfemme Iā€™ve read and loved published on a larger scale.

Itā€™s actually terrifying at first, but even around the block itā€™s clarifying and helps me reset. Iā€™ll literally walk out of my office and walk around the block phoneless and count pigeons to get back in my body and press restart.
