I love songs that are character portraits of really odd people. Randy Newman is probably the king of this genre with songs like "Short People" about someone with a cartoonish prejudice towards the vertically challenged. The line "They've got little hands, little eyes/They walk around telling great big lies" makes me laugh every time I hear it. Wilco's "I'm the man who loves you" details the racing thoughts of a guy too pathetic to approach the person he loves. Tom Waits has plenty of songs about outcasts, criminals, and their misadventures. I know there are plenty more examples this is just what first came to mind. Would love to hear more!
