I read about this sensation somewhere a while ago but I can’t remember in what context - but i experience a real jealousy for boyhood that I know others experience too. As someone who grew up as a girl, I get this pang of jealousy when I hear my amab mates talk about the adventures they would go on as kids, playful fist fighting, their parents letting them do activities and go out without supervision, etc. I watched stand by me today and felt this again. I had such special friendships and experiences as a kid, but as a girl, I feel that innocent fun sadly necessitates a close parental eye. Boyhood is surely very different now to how it was when I was young, and especially to my dad’s era or Stand By Me stuff. But I still quietly hold back jealous tears. Like a damn fool! Idk #dramatic today. let me know if you have the same experience. I am saying this from the perspective of a cis woman and know that these feelings must be more nuanced and intense among gender diverse people.
