I am picky about my books (I should say that my attention span is picky about my books) and I want recs that are like deep cuts or underappreciated! I am currently reading The Creative Act by Rick Rubin which isn't underrated but I like the content and structure. I recently read All About Love by Bell Hooks and I liked it, but I felt disappointed at how it felt kind of like Emotions 101. I think it has been around long enough that the radical ideas at the time seem a lot less radical now. I absolutely love psychology books like The Righteous Mind by Jonathan Haidt, as well as short stories/poetry collections like The Yellow Wallpaper (duh) & Bright Dead Things by Ada Limon. Most importantly, I will read pretty much any book by a musician/artist, like Just Kids by Patti Smith and Surrender by Bono. I did in fact read all 572 pages of the giant Beastie Boys book.
