enamored, obsessed, wowed, speechless β€” her work is breathtaking and cuts to the bone. her sculptures are all absurd, interesting, fabulous and distort bodies in ways that really resonate with me. some pieces featured

stoker, the beguiled (2017), suspiria (1977), the witch, sleepy hollow, nosferatu: a symphony of horror, nosferatu the vampyre, pans labyrinth, the others, rosemary's baby, the others, the love witch, jane eyre (2011), a girl walks home alone at night, neon demon, the hunger (1983), the haunting of julia / full circle. these are all varying degrees of gothic and horror. some are set more within a contemporary sphere that encapsulates less of the gothic horror but feel somewhat aligned - such as the love witch & neon demon.
so addictive. grab a wrap, slather hummus on it, pour as much nutritional yeast as your heart desires but be wary of the b-12 rash if you overdo it, drizzle lots and lots of sriracha, roll the wrap up and....enjoy!!

try and wish as i might to dislodge the opening sentence from the corner of permanency of my brain, it won't shift. because it's just that good. so delicious and juicy and evocative and rhythmic that every time i peel open the well-loved, well-worn, well-aged copy of the book, i am unable to stop reading at just that first line. 'It was a queer, sultry summer, the summer they electrocuted the Rosenbergs, and I didn't know what I was doing in New York.' at once it's hot and sticky and bad things are in the air and it's all whimsical and meandering and at lost. i am there on the sidewalk, melting into the cement, unsure of it all.

lately all i've been listening to is arthur russell. he was a cellist, composer and producer who wrote everything from folk to pop to disco. his own personal music was largely undiscovered in his lifetime as he was a notorious perfectionist who only released two albums underneath his own name while he was alive, but he collaborated with talking heads, dinosaur l, allen ginsberg and more in his capacity as producer. your motion says is my favourite song. what a fabulous artist !!

remembering how fun it is to take a canvas and paint it the colours that appeal to you....hot pink lavendar cake
the doll's alphabet by camilla grudova - strange, fabulous, surreal short stories that play around with the grotesque, gothic and uncanny fen by daisy johnson - short story collection set in the same setting, reads as if fables or myths drive your plow over the bones of the dead by olga tokarczuk - less overtly weird but hypnotic, concerned with astrology, william blake and morals. eccentric and delightful and one of the very very very best books ever written the fish by lloyd jones - oh i love this one.. told through the point of view a young boy whose sister gives birth to a fish. devastating and compelling and strange swanfolk by kristin Γ³marsdΓ³ttir - a young spy is entranced by a group of swan women. very dreamy and whimsical but also investigating ideas of power / sanity / violence lament for julia by susan taubes - novella + short stories, one of the best books i've ever read. the novella is disturbing and strange, told through the POV of a demon who lives inside julia's i and wickedly controls / recounts her life agree w the pisces by melissa broder - romance with a merman that is fabulous and fun and weird audition by pip adam - a scifi novel about prison abolishment that plays with a really unique, experimental writing style. i loved it even though i traditionally don't like scifi/fantasy pale fire by vladimir nabokov - poem, fictional poet, forward, index; such a weird, strange, experimental, confident and unusual structure with a plot that is as equally as strange by the time you're finished any kafka too...obviously hope this helps, i love weird lit β™‘

ethereal, stripped back, misty...makes me feel like i'm on a train with a lush landscape outside or soaking in a bath or dancing in an abandoned ballroom
