This whole topic is so scary and confusing! Science Versus did an episode about the health implications for different oil types, interviewed advocates on both sides of the issue, did a comprehensive literature review etc. and showed that the studies have not been able to demonstrate anything conclusive about this. It is possible seed oils are harmful in a way that hasn’t been captured yet by science, but the lack of evidence refutes the hypothesis that seed oils are the devil as many have been claiming. We’ll have to see where the science goes but good old olive oil and common sense never fails!

It may sound stupid because only stupid right-wing grifters seem to talk about it and never in any substantive or informative fashion but it’s real… here’s some information to start and at the end it identifies some actionable changes you can make 🧈

for anyone who wants to learn about how scientific knowledge can be influenced through manipulation of data and then disseminated to the masses by biased media, the way scientists with differing theories that don’t align with institutional and corporate interests can be discredited and dismissed by the loudest most persuasive authoritative voices in the room, and the TRUTH about dietary fats that the sugar lobby doesn’t want you to know…
“This makes scientific inquiry prone to the eternal rules of human social life: deference to the charismatic, herding towards majority opinion, punishment for deviance, and intense discomfort with admitting to error. Of course, such tendencies are precisely what the scientific method was invented to correct for, and over the long run, it does a good job of it. In the long run, however, we’re all dead, quite possibly sooner than we would be if we hadn’t been following a diet based on poor advice.”

I will not listen to instagram nutritionists or 20 year olds who read a handful of studies on Reddit dot com/pudmed. i WILL be listening to the people with years of science and experience

Read this. I found it in one of those little libraries. I know this is a must-read for a lot of people but somehow I never read it. Reading anyone's autobiography is fascinating, and Malcolm X is one of the most fascinating people ever. You do have to put up with many misogynist comments throughout the book, which is tough. It's beautiful and heartbreaking to follow someone so fully dedicated to their purpose in life. It's going back to the little library, hopefully someone else picks it up.
