TISH WEINSTOCK

🍑1930s slips, 🐽 Prosciutto,  🔮 John Richardson, and more.

Tish Weinstock is a London-based writer, consultant, and editor. The British Vogue beauty editor’s career ranges from working with legends like Paolo Roversi and John Galliano on a cover special for Luncheon Magazine, to appearing on the runway for houses like Collina Strada and Conner Ives. She was also the mind behind the launches of Dazed Beauty and System Beauty. Last year, Tish released her book How to Be a Goth: Notes on Undead Style, a “grimoire” that “serves as a manual for the modern goth as they navigate the pentagram of life,” offering “style and beauty advice for every stage of a goth’s life.” You can secure your copy here. Lucky for us, Tish is here to share what she’s been into.

She’s a naughty girl with a bad habit, a bad habit for slips. Peach, champagne, spearmint, aquamarine,  bubblegum, midnight, whatever your poison, you can’t go wrong with a 1930s silk slip. Slither into that slinky boudoir mindset. You are a lounge lizard. Wear them barefoot in the summer or under a cardi with big boots and tights in cooler/ arctic months. Illisa’s Vintage Lingerie in NYC is the goat.

My son Reuben is obsessed with knights. He even sleeps in his chain mail and sometimes illegally wears it under his school uniform. For his 5th bday, we took him to Warwick Castle where we stayed in a knight’s cabin in the woods. We watched medieval knights joust, visited the dungeons where a bunch of unhinged actors demonstrated the lost art of leeching from the time of the Black Death, and then at night there was this dragon-slaying performance using fireworks, pyrotechnics and holographic lightning. Honestly, the best holiday I've ever been on.

When it comes to interiors, John Richardson is my absolute north star and he isn’t even an interior designer. He was actually Picasso’s biographer and just had exceptionally good taste. Think: limewash turquoise walls, fur throws, antique suzanis liberally draped over sofas, great big oxblood ottomans with lion paw feet, plaster and marble busts, incidental day beds, life-size Piranesi etchings and obviously, as a friend of the Picasso pod, an unparalleled art collection. The man was a fucking genius.

Prosciutto. Light of my life, fire of my loins. My sin, my soul. Pro-ciu-tt0. There’s something about a strip of glistening, rose-pink cured meat that I just can't seem to resist, a weakness that earned me the nickname ‘ham hands’ growing up. Which I don’t often share with people but here we are.

A couple of years ago I married my best friend, the Gomez to my Morticia, and our first dance was to Elvis Presley’s Love Me.  It’s very romantic and slow and sultry, and it carries a lot of meaning for me. But then we recently discovered a Glenn Danzig cover which is even more heartwrenching and crooning. In fact, the entire Danzig Elvis cover album is a moment.

All you really need TBH. Great for chapped lips, highlighting the cheekbones and on the eyes for an expensive glazed look.  Don’t sleep on it.

I absolutely loved Ottessa Moshfegh’s book My Year of Rest and Relaxation about an unhinged, unnamed individual who starts drugging herself to sleep for a year in the hopes of waking up with a whole new perspective on life. So I was very excited to discover Ottessa’s substack. The name alone is giving;  "It's Ottessa, bitch.". Here you’ll get access to an uninterrupted stream of consciousness full of pithy takes, sardonic girl talk and interviews with Anna Delvey.

“Here piggy, piggy!” From a bondage-clad Emmanuelle Seigner whipping her asshole of a husband Peter Coyote, while he writhes around on the floor in a porcine mask, to an uptight Kristin Scott Thomas lezzing off on the dancefloor on a depressing New Year's Eve cruise, as a bereft Hugh Grant looks on, Roman Polanski’s erotic thriller is basically just a study of how power works in relationships, but with potentially more drastic consequences like maiming and murder.
